Case Study: Waterjet Cutting, Routing and Drilling GPO-3
A customer recently came to us with a problem. They had 900 kits of complex GPO-3 parts that they needed machined in a matter of weeks in order to meet their assembly deadline. They put Electrowind Converting Solutions to the task in order to complete this project and we delivered!
Initially, we took the designs for the parts and digitized them into our drawing program in order to quote the project and ensure we could meet the deadline. Once the quote was approved by our customer, we got to work producing the parts to our customers specs.
The first step was to waterjet cut 3/4" thick GPO-3 sheets to the shape of our customers design. We chose waterjet cutting as the tooling allows for closer machining tolerances, eliminating scrap material and saving our customer on material usage costs.
Once the shapes were cut, we moved them to the routering table to create smooth edge profiles around the semi-cirlces. This smooth profile was necessary as the customer would be inserting cables into the hole that cannot be damaged by sharp material edges.
After the profiles were completed, the parts were moved to our drilling centre in order to drill the side profile to make a hole for joining the assembly.
Finally, the parts were wrapped and packaged in lots of 9 and assembled on a skid for easy receiving and processing at our customers plant as per their requirement.
All of this work from design support to quoting to machining to packaging was handle in-house by our team at Electrowind Converting Solutions. Our customer was extremely satisfied with our ability to ship them precision machined GPO-3 parts on-time and on-budget and meet their project scope in a timely fashion.
